PRESS RELEASE
DATED:30-09-2008

The General Secretary of J&K High court Bar Association Mr. G. N. Shaheen has expressed his deep concern on the bloodshed of Kashmiri Muslims by the Indian occupation forces. The Jammu and Kashmir High court Bar Association has received painful reports from Kangan where due to heavy air raids more than one dozen people have lost their lives and civilian property worth crores has been damaged in these raids past three days. The Ariel raids by the Indian army and bombardment in Kangan outskirts is condemnable under all circumstances. The Jammu and Kashmir High court Bar Association has also received painful reports from Kharpora Avantipora (Tral) where the Indian army and the paramilitary forces in a joint action have blasted the house of Ramzan Bhat which is worth Rs. 50 lacs and the entire population in the village has been subjected to continuous crackdown past five days and the common people are tortured without any reason or rhyme and the villagers are forced to migrate from the village due to the brutal actions of the armed forces. The Indian army and other state forces in the name of fighting against armed combatants is infact perpetuating ruthless genocide of Kashmiri Muslims besides, damaging the civilian property. The armed actions of the state forces are condemnable being a violation of international law and human rights ethics.

The Jammu and Kashmir High court Bar Association appeals the peace loving international community especially the Human Rights Agencies to exercise their influence and call upon Indian occupational authorities to stop the human rights violations and damage to civilian property as a weapon of war against the people of Jammu and Kashmir. The Jammu and Kashmir High court Bar Association feels the use of force by the Indian authorities against the people to subvert the freedom struggle is unjust and unfair in view of the commitments made by the Indian leadership to the international community to resolve the Kashmir issue through peaceful and purposeful means. The recent resolve of Indian Prime Minister Mr. Manmohan Singh before the United Nations general assembly to address the Kashmir issue and find its solution leaves no scope for use of force by the occupation authorities in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Jammu and Kashmir High court Bar Association extends its Eid Greetings to the Muslim Ummah and appeals the people of Jammu and Kashmir to celebrate the Eid with simplicity and modesty in view of the miseries faced by the people of Kashmir.

G.N. Shaheen
General Secretary,
J&K High Court Bar Association.
