The Five member team of lawyers including President of the J&K Highy Court Bar Association Mr. Mian Abdul Qayoom, Vice President Mr. Aijaz Bedar Treasurer Mr. Tanveer Ahmad Bhat, Senior Advocates Mr. Rafiq Ahmad Joo and Mr. Arshid Andrabi today on 15 th of October 2009 pursuant to the orders of the Hon’ble High Court of Jammu and Kashmir have visited District Jail Udhampur to meet have interaction with the inmates of the Jail. The team is led by the President Mr. Mian Abdul Qayoom. During the course of interaction and interview with the detainees in the district jail Udhampur the inmates have put forth their problems with the visiting team members and have complained that the jail authorities are not ensuring the presence of the undertrial prisoners before the courts on due dates, where the undertrials are facing trial in their respective cases in Kashmir valley.

The detainees have also complained that the authorities do not provide them the facilities as provided under the regulations of the Jail manuals. The detenues have also requested the visiting lawyers for speedy proceedings of habeas corpus matters. The visiting lawyers have ensured the detainees that the Hon’ble Chief Justice of the Hon’ble High court Mr. Barin Gosh has assured the Bar Association to take majors for speedy disposal of the habeas corpus matters pending before the Hon’ble High Court of Jammu and Kashmir in this being the lawyers are observing positive attitude from the Hon’ble Judges of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir. The team of the above mentioned lawyers shall visit tomorrow different jails in Jammu district including the Central Jail Kotebalwal Jammu and the General Secretary of the Bar Association Mr. G. N. Shaheen tomorrow for onward jail visits in Jammu province.
