It is notified for information for all concerned that annual elections for the year 2009 – 2010 of the J&K High Court Bar Association are due in the last week of July 2009 and in this behalf the Bar Association had published tentative voter list on 15.07.2009 with an option for filing objections to it by any interested member of the Bar Association. A few objections were received by the Bar Association and accordingly the tentative voter list was reviewed in the executive committee of the Bar Association in its meeting dated 19.07.2009. In view of the objections the tentative voter list was reviewed and necessary corrections were incorporated in it. Accordingly the final voter list is published alongwith this notification which is final in all respects and only such members are entitled to cost their votes whose names figure in this final voter list and no entry in the list shall be incorporated henceforth from 22.07.2009. The electoral college as such is consisting of 604 voters.
In the executive meeting above referred a six member election commission has been constituted unanimously to be headed by the Chairman Senior Advocate Mr. Mushtaq Ahmad Makhdoomi with its members as under:
- Mr. Bashir Ahmad Khan, Advocate
- Mr. Abdul Aziz Teli, Advocate
- Mr. Ishfaq Muzammil Nehvi, Advocate
- Mr. G. A. Wani, Advocate
- Mr. Riyaz Ahmad Khan, Advocate
Hence, the reference for conducting annual elections of the J&K High Court Bar Association for the year 2009 – 2010 in order to elect new executive body on the posts of President, Vice-President, General Secretary, Joint Secretary and Treasurer is accordingly made and the election commission is recommended to hold the elections in accordance with the constitutional mandate of the J&K High Court Bar Association on the basis of the final voter list dated 22.07.2009 referred to the election commission of the J&K High Court Bar Association alongwith this notification. The Chairman and the members of the election commission are advised to take the charge by today on 22.07.2009 at 3.00 p.m. and are recommended to hold the elections by or before 1 st August 2009 so that the new elected executive is given oath of office in the 1 st week of August 2009 in accordance with the constitutional requirements.
Further it is resolved that the present executive committee shall co-operate with the commission in running the day to day affairs of the Bar Association and shall provide all the requirements and logistic support to the election commission for smooth, peaceful and transparent elections in reference. Never the less the present executive body cannot take any policy decision henceforth, except the concurrence of the election commission.
