OBJECT OF LIFE
By G .M. Shakir  (Advocate)

Each and every person considers object of his life according to his own interests and tastes. Some persons some consider the object of this life only to satisfy their material needs that is food; shelter etc and work for achieving this object. Their main aim is to provide each and every luxury to their life. Certain persons are adamant to work against the material side of life and sometimes destroyed the human life by doing such acts as was very harmful. This is evident from the conduct of those monks who leave the world under the wrong notion of achieving highest spirituality. However, all depends on the thinking of a man. Due to his the reason human being has always tried to know the object of his life.

The great philosopher of Greek and Egypt as well as Indian philosophers tried to know the object of human life and of than tried to lay the rules for the conduct of human. The modern western scholars also seem busy to know the object of this life but after they have lost the serenity From their lives. As in other walks of life human thought has always failed here also. His whole efforts nn this side are futile if he does not accept the guidance of religion. Islam has also laid down the object of life and this object helps us individual as well as collectively to lead both the lives very properly and in decent form. The Quran Lays down, “I created the Jinns and human kind only that they might worship me. I seek not livelihood from them nor do I seek that they should feed me” 51:56-57. According to this verse the object of this life is nothing but to worship Allah. It has also been laid down that he needs unconditional surrender before of human being before him and does not ask for food etc from the two species of his creation. He does not seek anything from “riziq”from them (it maybe correctly held that term riziq is very wide term then we ordinarily mean by it and it includes everything necessary for the life like food, knowledge and guidance etc. ) The reason quoted for a complete as well as total surrender before almighty is that he’d does not seek anything from human being. This reason is clearly stated in the following words. “o mankind worship your lord who hath Created you and those before you that you may ward of evil” .With this verse it is clear that the creation is the act of Allah, not only of the present generation but of the people who have left this world.

By reading this and another verse, Allah has been declared entitled to be worship on the ground of being creator of every generation, past as well as present. So even the persons of highest spiritual or material caliber are not entitled to be worshiped. The reason for not worshiping any person other than Allah has been laid down as the provisions for human beings have been made by almighty. “Who hath made earth resting place for you and the sky canopy: and causeth The rain to pour down from Sky, thereby providing fruits as food for you, and do not set up rivals to Allah When ye know (Better)” .the Prophet (S. A. W.) has been directed to tell the Arabs “say truly, my prayer and my service of a Such sacrifice, my life and my death are (all) for Allah, the cherisher”VI: 162. By this verse it is manifest that the prophet (SAW) had been Asked to make a declaration of his service of every kind being only for Allah. It is not only the prophet (S. A. W.) but every Muslim at least repeats so many times in the day the words “ye(alone) we worship, and, ye (alone) we ask for help” Then why this repetition of the words so many times ? only to make us of strict belief that he only is to be worshiped and in every field of life we may adopt him accordingly and when we need help it is to be asked from him and none other. In chapter Mary an important reason for worship only to Allah has been stated. According To this verse he is the lord of not only skies and earth, but of every thing between them. As everything is under the control of almighty , he may destroyed / make or make it useful or otherwise according to his own wishes without any interference from others . “lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them! Therefore worship him and be thou steadfast”. The direction of worshiping him has been made absolute and none can escape the punishment, in case this is violated. The Quran says “and they have been commanded no more than this but to worship Allah, offering him sincere devotion, been through (in faith), to establish regular prayers, And to give zakat and that is the religion right and straight”. By perusal of this verse The basic requirements and foundation of Islam is sincere devotion and worship to Allah. Once this condition is fulfilled a man is entitled to reward as there is every possibility that other components could be easily followed. Conversely, if this thing is not done whole deeds are lost. The Quran say that all the human beings had been directed to worship him and hence this principle is not only found in Quran but in other books revealed to prophets before the revelation of the Quran. The chapter yaseen make is it clear “did I not charge you O Sons of Adam, that ye worship not to devil lo He is your Open foe .But that you worship me that was the right path”. The Prophet (S. A. W.) has been directed to declare openly that he has been directed to worship Allah making the religion pure for him, “say (O Mohammad), I Have been commanded to worship Allah, making religion pure for him only)xxX-85. The word “khalis” has the special Significance denoting for ‘only ‘and not for any object or entity other than Allah. The direction to worship only to Allah and not to any other person is more clearly stated in the following verse. “my lord hath decreed that ye worship none save Allah-17: 23”. This is not simple direction to do an act, but decree, hence absolutely binding as the word decree can not be flouted.

The Quran, after making the mention of greatness of book with basic verses say “(it teaches) that ye should not worship but Allah”. This verse is self explanatory. However, the word worship is not confined only to what is conventionally meant by it. Islam defined it in very wide sense. Even the jobs, which seem to purely of mundane nature are included provided done with a sense of obedience to Allah. For instance though the object of marriage is procreation of children and satisfying sexual desires, which is purely a mundane act but it too become as worship to Allah if done with the object of saving one’s person from unbridled sex. The dispensing of justice apparently seems a worldly act but it also takes the form of worship as has been declared by the Prophet (S. A. W.). “The justice of an hour is better than worship of 70 years”. This has further been explained by the tradition where it has been said that a word of justice or of rightness to a harsh king is the best crusade. Feeding one’s own self or to his family with the sense of obedience to Allah is also included in the ambit of worship.

By reading the chapter second human being is the viceroy of almighty on the earth, which he has to manage and handle all the things on the earth as the deputy of him. Once he performs his acts according to his instructions with intention of obedience to him it becomes worship. Be it honest earnings of the livelihood or any other thing. However, those acts become fruitful and praiseworthy, if done only with the intention of obtaining the pleasure or saving one’s self from the wrath of almighty. But even if the conventional worship is done for the sake of making people Impressed due to worship and seeking the pleasure of people other than Allah it becomes in vain. AS has been declared by the Prophet (SAW) : Nrrated Omar bini Khitab (RA) I heard Allah's Apostle saying, "The reward of deeds depends upon the intentions and every person will get the reward according to what he has intended. So whoever emigrated for worldly benefits or for a woman to marry, his emigration was for what he emigrated for."
